For some volunteers, Spring Rebuild Day becomes a lifelong commitment to strengthening communities and improving lives. Jeremy Orcutt is one of those dedicated individuals whose story reflects the true spirit of service.

Jeremy Orcutt, an instructor with the Electrical Training Institute of Indianapolis, has volunteered with RTI for more than two decades. His journey began around the year 2000, when his local union first got involved. What started as an opportunity during his time as an apprentice quickly became something much more meaningful.

“At first, I was curious what the event was all about,” Jeremy recalls. “But once I got involved, I realized how impactful it really is.”

One of his earliest experiences left a lasting impression. Jeremy worked on an elderly couple’s home facing serious electrical safety issues. Through the efforts of volunteers, the home was transformed into a safer, more livable space.

“It felt really good,” he says. “Knowing I had the ability to make a small change in someone’s life—to improve their daily living.”

That sense of purpose is what brings Jeremy back year after year.

This year, Jeremy and his team tackled a variety of repairs. From updating lighting fixtures to improving ventilation in the kitchen and making bathroom upgrades, the work may seem small in scope, but its impact is significant.

Every repair completed, every hazard removed, and every improvement made contributes to a larger mission: helping homeowners live in a safe and healthy home.

“If there’s one thing I’d hope new volunteers take away,” he says, “it’s a sense of gratitude for what they have and an understanding of how important it is to give back to your community.”

Volunteers like Jeremy remind us that lasting change doesn’t happen overnight, but with consistency, dedication, and a willingness to serve, it can span decades.

And sometimes, all it takes to make a difference is showing up.
