Rebuilding Together Indianapolis is Seeking House Captain Volunteers
The mission of Rebuilding Together Indianapolis is to enhance the lives of low-income and elderly homeowners by improving the safety and health of their homes and revitalizing their communities. Each year, we work with the selected neighborhood Community Development Corporation to select homeowners meeting the criteria to be part of our program. In an effort to create a streamlined process, we assign each homeowner a House Captain. We are searching for community leaders interested in joining us as House Captains to deliver this program successfully.
As House Captain, you will work hand-in-hand with our Captain Chairman and committee to finalize the details of the improvement scope and materials for your assigned project. You will confirm the budget and develop the build plan. As the House Captain, you will lead the team during Union Build day and Game Day and most importantly you will work closely with the homeowner, a neighbor in need, in improving their daily living conditions.
Your commitment begins in mid-February and ends in mid-May. Typically, you will spend about 2-4 hours a week until the month of April. In April, it is best to plan for about 40 hours of volunteer time. On Game Day, you will work in tandem with your volunteer coordinator and the volunteers assigned to your house to complete the project. Our goal is to make it a very rewarding investment for you and your company.
House Captain Chairman - Tom Pearson
Rebuilding Together Indianapolis is committed to creating a positive impact on our neighborhoods. It would be impossible to do so without community leaders like Tom Pearson. Tom is our 2016 House Captain Chairman. Tom has served as a House Captain for Rebuilding Together Indianapolis for 17 years. He returns each year because he enjoys the opportunity to work side by side with so many corporate leaders in an effort that improves Indianapolis neighborhoods. “I know what I am doing makes a difference in the lives of the homeowner and their family, as well as their neighbors and the community around them.” said Tom. “In addition, I have the chance to work along side many other corporate partners who also value improving our community.”
As the our 2015 House Captain Chairman, Tom works with his committee to assist with selecting qualified homes and developing appropriate improvement scopes for the program. His committee recruits and trains our house captains. This piece of the puzzle is critical when preparing for a positive experience for the homeowner, house captain, sponsor and volunteer.
