2007 Homeowner Ms. Wilson

Homeowner Profile
Only a few years ago, Ms. Wilson was close to losing her home for good. Unable to pay her mortgage and insurance after her husband died, Wilson, 74, was on the verge of moving due to expenses and health code violations. However, after working out payments with the bank and making many necessary changes, Wilson was able to keep her home. She is gracious for the additional repairs Rebuilding Together Indianapolis is providing, and is confident that no one will ever deter her from keeping her home. Work will be completed throughout the house. Fresh paint and plaster, a new kitchen floor and back door, electrical fixtures, landscaping and drywall will be installed. Wilson, who has worked as a greeter and dining room assistant at Butler University for 17 years, says students, and people in general, keep her smiling.

2006 Homeowner Ms. Greer

Homeowner Profile
In 1955, Ms. Greer moved to Indiana with her family from a small town in northern Mississippi. She has lived in the Indianapolis area for most of her adult life and enjoys the sights and sounds of the city. Ms. Greer has spent many years collecting antiques and other trinkets and enjoys displaying the unique items around her home. One of her most recent fixtures is a fascinating dry-ice fountain in her living room area, which she points out proudly to visitors. The couch in her TV room is Ms. Greer’s favorite part of her house, where she spends most of her days keeping up with her talk shows and soap operas. She has three grown children.

2005 Homeowner Ms. Crawford

Homeowner Profile
From generation to generation members of Ms. Crawford’s family have owned the same house. She originally moved into the house with her parents when she was 14 years old. Before that, the home was occupied by her grandmother, then her aunt. Now at 38 years old, she and her husband of 2 years reside at the home. Her husband exclaims, “Not only did I marry into the family, but I also married into the house.” Ms. Crawford and her husband share a love of music together. Her husband plays in a band while she runs their soundboard. She also is a D.J. When she’s not listening or playing music you will find her working at the Center Township Accessor’s Office or going to class at Ivy Tech to become an accountant. Ms. Crawford is very proud of her neighborhood. “The neighborhood is on a little upswing compared to the early 90’s when the neighborhood was overridden with rental properties and neglected homes,” she says. She is very happy that Rebuilding Together is coming in to do the many needed repairs in both her house and around the neighborhood. She has been so pleased with Rebuilding Together that she and her husband are going to sign up to be volunteers next year.

2004 Homeowner Ms. Phillips

Homeowner Profile
Ms. Phillips, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother extraordinaire has resided in her current home for 12 years after moving to Indianapolis from New York City . She worked at Wishard Hospital as a Nurses Assistant for 10 years. Her focus now is taking care of her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She found about Rebuilding Together through CDC and she was elated when she was informed that she would be getting a new roof. The first words out of her mouth were “Thank you Jesus”. She is most excited about the additional space in her bedroom closet, and floor coverings throughout. She was also was excited to learn that she will be getting new kitchen cabinets, counter tops, sink and garbage disposal.

2003 Homeowner Ms. Mickle

Homeowner Profile
Ms. Mickle moved to Indianapolis from Chicago six years ago. She knew the woman who was selling the home she is currently living in and thought it would be a good chance to start over. Ms. Mickle has one son and two grandchildren. When asked if she was excited to be a part of the Rebuilding Together Indianapolis program, she shouted “You know I am excited.” Ms. Mickle is looking forward to meeting all of the volunteers on workday.
